When thinking about the issue of energy, it came to my mind a chapter of The Simpsons called Who Shot Mr. Burns (part 1). In the story, Burns is trying to grow his monopoly of energy, by stealing the oil found under the Elementary School. After doing this, and gaining everyones hate, he decides to BLOCK THE SUN from Springfield, therefore creating a constant and absolute dependance on the energy produced by his companies.
Mr. Burns blocked the sun, and by doing this he controlled the access to a resource that would be, in regular situations, public and free. First we privatized the land, than the water, than the underground, than the air… even the moon (don’t believe it? See Lunar Embassy)! What if, the Sun or, better, the access to sunlight was privatized and only a few could benefit and profit from it?
